The Nexus is made up of a wide variety of peoples and cultures, although there are certain galactic cultural standards that are more or less consistent: the use of uterine replicators and other reproductive technology is near-ubiquitous, the majority of developed worlds have gender equality in the workforce, if in no other areas of society, and the Nexus, as a whole, is generally scientifically-minded. Ethics, however, are not a constant, and what people do with their scientific pursuits varies widely. The Cetagandans, as old and well-established as they are, have a distinctly developed culture; but third-world Barrayar, isolated for seven hundred years, has developed much in its own way.
