[For Barrayar] resources

During wartime, resources are always in higher demand than there is supply. What's available fluctuates month to month depending on a variety of factors: level of consumption, anything gained from raids of supply drops, and, of course, the unforeseen and unexpected.

food
The majority of the Cetagandans' food supply is brought in by supply line, both from the farmland around Vorkosigan Vashnoi and the Barrayaran capital of Vorbarr Sultana, where they maintain their central base for the invasion operation. However, as much of the native foliage is unsafe for human consumption and the local agriculture is not enough to sustain their numbers, the larger Cetagandan bases have facilities for growing imported Earth-derived vegetation and synthesized vat protein. Their supply lines are guarded, but far from impervious to attack.

The source of the Barrayarans' food supply varies widely depending on their position and immediate access. The relationship between the guerrillas and the nearby villagers constitutes its own kind of supply line: the villagers pass along what they can of their own grains, produce and meat, as the guerrillas mostly cannot keep any livestock besides horses, but it isn't always safe to trade with the villagers, and at times they must rely on foraging and hunting to maintain their food supply. Groats are a Barrayaran staple food and readily available even in wartime.

water
Water is an abundant resource on Barrayar, and the Cetagandans take advantage of that; their base includes a facility for pumping groundwater into a reservoir. Potable water is derived from a rigorous filtration and purification process; water for non-potable use, such as showers and toilets, undergo a more cursory filtration. Cetagandan soldiers also carry water purification tablets for use in the field.

The Barrayarans have no access to groundwater save for the occasional well, mostly only located in villages. Most of their water supply comes from creeks and rivers that run down the mountains, and Barrayarans have no water purification technology of their own, except whatever they can steal from the Cetagandans.

medicine
Cetagandan medical equipment is state-of-the-art, both in their medbay and gene labs. Their instruments are well beyond galactic standard grade, and their stock of advanced drugs are all Cetagandan-developed and manufactured. The gene lab is equipped with some of the latest in technology straight from Eta Ceta IV, and the medical suite includes four operating theatres and sophisticated robotic arms for surgical assistance.

Although Barrayar was beginning to adopt galactic medical technology after the ending of the Time of Isolation, the guerrillas have access to only the most rudimentary of medicine. Aside from a few naturally cultivated but effective antibiotics, the guerrillas' medical supplies are mostly limited to herbal medicine, bandages and sutures, and simple surgical tools. However, sometimes more effective, galactic-standard medicine comes with the supply drops smuggled in from Beta Colony. Medical supplies scavenged or stolen from the Cetagandan base are highly prized.

weapons/equipment
The Cetagandans' armory is stocked with a range of energy weapons as well as combat armor and some plasma-based heavy artillery. Standard service arms for ghem soldiers include a stunner, a nerve disruptor, and a plasma rifle. The compound's equipment is also state-of-the-art, from cleaning apparati to the latest in anti-grav convenience tech.

Unable to use any energy-based technology for fear of detection by the enemy, the Barrayarans stick to what they know: swordplay and archery. However, their weaponry is far from crude -- Barrayaran steel is strong and well-crafted, and their crossbows are honed and deadly.

facilities/manpower
The Cetagandans have a heavily fortified base some 15 kilometers from the foothills of the Dendarii Mountains, surrounded by two sets of high walls made of steel-reinforced concrete with a nerve disruption net running between them. The compound houses several buildings for soldiers' barracks and officers' quarters, storage, medical and scientific research facilities, water treatment, mess, and an open area for military drills. The camp is fully powered and boasts two backup generators: one to power the entire facility, and one that strictly powers only the most vital parts of the compound, the medical facilities and gene labs. This Cetagandan base is the center of operations in Vorkosigan's District, and houses about 10,000 military personnel with a team of 150 ghem lady geneticists headed by the haut-ghem Lady Diya.

The Barrayarans' camp is nestled up in the Dendarii mountains and is comprised largely of tents divided neatly into different sections of the camp for mess, armory, medical, sleeping/residence, and one war-room tent reserved for use by General Vorkosigan and his general staff. Aside from the tents, the Barrayarans also make extensive use of the terrain: part of the camp is sheltered by the wide mouth of a cave, wherein they keep a supply cache deeper inside, and though the center of military operations is in a clearing, much of the camp is spread out amongst the thick forestry to conceal it. This Barrayaran camp houses about 150 guerrilla soldiers and a stables with about 40 horses.
